Week 5 T-Shirt Final
For my new design, I took the advice of the professor and the class, and completely re-did the hand so it is at a different angle, and easier to see. In addition to this, I kept the top of the Earth rounded instead of having it cave in at the top. I made everything solely out of shapes and one line segment, so it looks much cleaner and neat.
For my t-shirt design, I decided to choose Earth as my Critical Concern. I chose this design because when considering climate change, us humans are held responsible. That is why I decided to portray a human hand holding the melting Earth. In addition to this, I placed a plant at the bottom catching the "melted" water (or Earth) as if it is being watered to show growth. I decided to illustrate the idea of growth because growing indicates constant change. Change and growth are what we need in order to keep our planet healthy.
The main element I focused on in this piece was depth. I did this because I knew I would not be outlining any of my shapes. To create the depth, I placed some of the melting Earth behind the hand as well as in front of it. I did the same thing behind the plant and in front of the plant. I tried to indicate a bit of balance between the hand and the plant as well, trying to keep them relatively the same size. I unified the image by having the plant catch the falling Earth, which gives a sense of security; it does not fall all the way down the page.
I chose to take the top hand off of my Earth because it looked as if it were crushing it, and that is not the message I was trying to portray. In addition, I added the plant as a way to show that we need to take care of what we have to the best of our ability.
