Final Blog

Working with Illustrator throughout this semester has been quite a journey, but looking through the work of myself, and everyone else in the class, you can see how we have all come a long way. My favorite thing we have learned this semester was the low-poly art, and that will be evident throughout my presentation. Not only is the cover to my portfolio a low-poly design, but you will see bits of low-poly art implemented onto each page. We worked with vector art this semester, and, personally, I think it is one of the coolest art forms there is. I would have never thought we would be able to make some of the things we did by the end of this semester. As I said earlier, the low-poly fruit was my favorite project. I enjoyed the process, and really thought the outcomes were incredible as well. Creating a 3-D image out of triangles is a strange idea to me, but I now think it is my favorite art form.  This semester, I think I combined realistic images with cartoon images very...

Low poly art is a technique used to create an image using a relatively low number of polygons (usually triangles) and coloring them accordingly. It is used to create 2 dimensional images, and well as 3 dimensional images, if the colors are used correctly. https://www.sessions.edu/notes-on-design/whats-the-deal-with-low-poly-art/ https://www.juegostudio.com/blog/low-poly-art-design https://www.redbubble.com/people/basketfreak13/works/28299248-low-poly-art-wolf?p=poster

Week13

We learned a lot about layout and composition. We learned that the colors throughout the portfolio should be consistent, nothing should be too close or too far away, there should not be too much white space-full the page, everything should be aligned with each other or else it will look messy, make sure texts and backgrounds contrast each other, and use repetition in a way that keeps everything tied together. For example: use the same fonts throughout, and make sure everything looks relatively alike

Week 10

Image
For my low-poly fruit, I revised it by playing with the colors of the inside and outside of the fruit to make it appear more as the light is coming from the top left corner, and show more depth. I played with the gradient feature to try and make it seem as the fruit is sitting on a surface, and was able to manipulate the light so it is lighter in the top left corner, and darker in the bottom right. In addition to this, I fixed up the "slices" so they appear more even than before. I chose the blue as a background color, because orange and blue are complimentary colors, which emphasizes my fruit on the page.

Week 9

Image
For this project, I chose a grapefruit. I thought it would look interesting doing a fruit that is cut open for this low poly art project. I tried to create some depth by using a darker orange in the bottom right corner, to portray the light coming from the top left, but it was actually a lot more difficult to figure out the lighting than I had thought, since I had to use so many different colors to show distinction between triangles and those around it.

Fruit Poster

Image
For my fruit poster, I decided on the colors blue and orange because they are contrasting colors and I thought they would make the poster pop off the page. I created a "L" shape to put the fruit in and replicated it on the top to show some symmetry within the work. I set up my fruit in a specific order where there would be a rhythm to it: a pattern of red and yellow. To modify my poster, I changed the tint of the blue background so the lettering contrasts more to the background. In addition to this, I changed the grey to a lighter shade to contrast more, so the background of the fruit icons did not blend in. I took the advice of the professor and went along with the chalkboard/grocery store idea, so I added a few components to the paragraph box (or chalkboard). I played around with the opacity of some white rectangles to replicate eraser marks and give the appearance that it is, in fact, a chalkboard that is being used.
